The Moria Barraquer scissors are reusable ophthalmic scissors made of stainless steel.
The Barraquer scissors’ size is 77mm, while the blades’ size is 8,5mm, which makes them easy to store and/or to sterilize in one of the Moria ophthalmic boxes designed for these purposes.
The blades’ shape blunt, bringing more precision during ocular surgeries. The Barraquer scissors have a butterfly closing shape, with a direct action. The Barraquer scissors are used to cut tissues during those surgeries :
Cataract surgery
Is the main treatment for cataracts. It consists of removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with an artificial one called “the intraocular lens”. Cataract surgery is usually offered to patients when vision loss interferes with their daily life, regardless of the severity of the opacification. During the cataract surgery, a high-level of precision is required. The use of the Moria Barraquer scissors is thus necessary in this context.
Chalazion treatment
A chalazion is characterized by the appearance of a red bump on the eyelid. It is also known as an “eyelid cyst” or a “meibomian cyst”. It appears when the meibomian, an oil gland, becomes blocked. Although the chalazion is painful on the first days, the pain disappears after a little while. If drops and ointment can’t cure a chalazion, the Doctor might prescribe a surgery. The surgeon makes a small incision in the encysted gland. The gland is then emptied or removed if necessary. Most often, the incision is made on the inner side of the eyelid and leaves no scar.
